About Atlanta University Center
The Atlanta University Center (AUC) is the world's largest and oldest consortium of historically Black colleges and universities (HBCUs), comprising Clark Atlanta University, Morehouse College, Morehouse School of Medicine, and Spelman College. This vibrant intellectual community has a rich tradition of scholarship, service, and community engagement, fostering an environment of academic excellence and cultural significance. The AUC is a powerful learning and research epicenter that has produced some of the world's most brilliant leaders and effective change agents.
The AUC member institutions offer a diverse range of academic programs, from liberal arts and sciences to specialized fields like medicine and engineering. Students can cross-register for courses at any of the member institutions, providing access to a broader collegiate experience and specialized programs not offered at their home school. Notable multidisciplinary strengths include the Dual Degree Engineering Program and the AUC Data Science Initiative. The consortium's educational model emphasizes critical thinking, community engagement, and leadership training, contributing to social justice movements.
While specific international student support services are not detailed, the AUC is committed to providing resources such as internships and career opportunities to all its students. The student population is diverse, with students hailing from across the United States and over fifty countries. English is the primary language of instruction. Cultural integration is fostered through various student organizations, including African Students Associations and Caribbean student associations, providing a sense of community for international students.
The AUC is located in southwest Atlanta, Georgia, a city known for its civil rights history, arts, culture, and dynamic postsecondary institutions. The campuses are contiguous and walkable, with the Robert W. Woodruff Library serving as a central reference point. Atlanta offers a vibrant city life with numerous attractions, including Centennial Olympic Park, the Atlanta Beltline, and the Martin Luther King, Jr. National Historical Park, all easily accessible from the AUC. A shuttle service operates within the AUC, connecting the campuses and nearby areas.
The Atlanta University Center Consortium Career Services (AUCC CS) provides students with access to internships, cooperative research, and permanent career opportunities. The AUCC hosts annual recruitment fairs, including career, graduate, professional school, and federal career fairs, which are among the largest in the Southeastern U.S. These events connect students with national employers, including Fortune 500 companies, federal agencies, nonprofits, and startups, across various industries such as technology, finance, engineering, and healthcare. The consortium has a strong track record of producing leaders and innovators, with alumni making significant contributions in various fields.
