About İzmir Institute of Technology

İzmir Institute of Technology (IZTECH) is a public research university in İzmir, Turkey, established in 1992 with a strong emphasis on science and technology. It stands as the only institution of its kind in Turkey with a specific focus on scientific research. IZTECH offers a wide range of undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral programs, all taught in English.

Academics


IZTECH's academic structure comprises three faculties: Engineering, Science, and Architecture, along with a Graduate School. The Faculty of Engineering offers diverse programs including Computer, Bioengineering, Environmental, Energy Systems, Electrical-Electronics, Food, Civil, Chemical, Mechanical, and Materials Science and Engineering. The Faculty of Science includes Physics, Photonics, Chemistry, Mathematics, and Molecular Biology and Genetics. The Faculty of Architecture covers Industrial Design, Architecture, and City and Regional Planning. IZTECH employs a student-centered, project-based education approach, aiming to foster modern researchers, inventors, and entrepreneurs.

International Students


The International Relations Office (IRO) at IZTECH is dedicated to supporting international students and promoting global competence. All courses at IZTECH are taught in English, facilitating a smoother academic transition for international students. The university actively participates in the Erasmus+ exchange program, boasting over 120 bilateral agreements with institutions worldwide, offering opportunities for short-term education and internships. Support services for international students include assistance with visa and residence permit procedures, as well as access to health services.

Campus & Location


IZTECH's campus is situated in Gülbahçe Village, Urla, approximately 60 km from the vibrant city of Izmir. Izmir itself is a modern, liberal, and culturally rich city on Turkey's Aegean coast, known for its mild climate, historical sites, and lively atmosphere. The IZTECH campus, one of the largest in Turkey, offers various amenities such as a central cafeteria, canteens, shopping markets, and sports facilities including an indoor swimming pool, fitness room, and outdoor courts for tennis, basketball, and mini golf. Transportation to and from the campus is available via university bus services, public buses, and minibuses, with free shuttle services operating within the campus.

IZTECH's Career Office, established in 2021, supports students and graduates with career planning and personal development. The university has a strong connection with Technopark Izmir, an on-campus technology development zone hosting approximately 181 technology companies. This ecosystem provides students with valuable opportunities for part-time work, internships, and research collaborations with R&D companies, helping them gain practical experience before graduation. Graduates are highly regarded both nationally and internationally, with many pursuing postgraduate studies at top universities abroad or establishing their own companies within or outside Technopark Izmir.
