Democritus University of Thrace

Democritus University of Thrace (DUTH), established in 1973, is a prominent public university in Greece, named after the ancient Greek philosopher Democritus. It serves approximately 30,000 undergraduate and postgraduate students across multiple campuses in Komotini, Xanthi, Alexandroupolis, Orestiada, Drama, and Kavala, making it one of the largest universities in the country. DUTH operates across several cities in Thrace, with its central administration located in Komotini. The Komotini campus, situated 5 km from the city center, houses the Law School, School of Physical Education and Sports, Department of Economic Sciences, Department of Greek Language and Literature, student residences, and a restaurant. Komotini itself is a vibrant, multicultural city with a population exceeding 50,000, not including its substantial student population, offering a lively atmosphere with various entertainment, cultural, educational, and sports events. Regular bus services are available for student transportation within and between campuses.
