The university combines a rich tradition with a commitment to innovation, offering a wide range of subjects and a vibrant urban campus environment.

Academics

The University of Rostock is organized into nine faculties and excels in engineering, natural sciences, medicine, agricultural and environmental sciences, and humanities. It is particularly known for pioneering interdisciplinary collaborations in areas such as computational sciences, marine research, and renewable energy. The modular structure of its programs facilitates interdisciplinary studies, and the university has four key interdisciplinary research profile lines: Life, Light & Matter; Maritime Systems; Aging Science and Humanities; and Knowledge โ€“ Culture โ€“ Transformation. Notable alumni include several Nobel laureates in physics, chemistry, and medicine, such as Karl Ferdinand Braun and Albrecht Kossel.

International Students

The University of Rostock actively supports its diverse international student community, which makes up about 11% of the total student body. The International Office coordinates international relations and provides consultation and support to foreign students. There are several English-taught Master's programs available, including Computational Science and Engineering, Electrical Engineering, and Computer Science International. The Local Erasmus Initiative (LEI) and other student initiatives offer support, organizing events, a pick-up service, and assistance with settling in, such as opening bank accounts and navigating immigration processes. The Language Center also offers German as a foreign language courses.

Campus & Location

The University of Rostock offers a central, urban campus environment that seamlessly integrates with the lively Hanseatic city of Rostock. The city itself provides a high recreational value due to its proximity to the Baltic Sea and good infrastructure. Students benefit from excellent public transportation, with a semester ticket often included in fees, allowing easy access between campuses and around the city. Rostock is also home to attractions like the Rostock Botanical Gardens and is a gateway to the Baltic Sea coast.

Career Outcomes

The university's Careers Service is a central point of contact for students and graduates seeking guidance on career entry, applications, and skill development. They offer consulting, coaching, and a program of workshops on career planning, application know-how, and entrepreneurship. The "Company meets Campus" series and "IT Career Night" events connect students with various national and international employers, fostering industry connections.
